Storytelling

with Danica Ondrusova

Use storytelling to nurture your child’s imagination and emotional growth. Learn to incorporate stories into daily life, offering comfort, understanding, and a safe space for your children to explore their emotions. This course will build your confidence and skills in telling unique stories, deepening your connection with your child, and empowering them to make sense of their experiences.

Children need an understanding of the world that meets them at the right developmental level. Often, they don’t need detailed explanations to the “why” questions in the way we might assume. More than answers, they need reassurance - that the world is good, safe, and meaningful. Their developing minds are not yet ready to make sense of abstract or intellectual explanations, and too much information can bring unnecessary worry.

When we meet children’s questions with stories rather than intellect, we speak to the part of them that is ready to receive. While there is often a temptation to explain or solve through logic, story offers a developmentally appropriate response - one that nourishes their inner life.

Story creates rich inner pictures and helps children relate to the world through their feeling life. In this way, we tend an inner garden filled with colour, movement, and living impressions, which in turn nurtures imagination. Imagination is a vital source of creativity, flexibility, and problem-solving as children grow. Where imagination opens a world of possibility, its opposite - rigid, purely intellectual thinking - can limit a child’s capacity to wonder, create, and explore.
